Journaling can be a helpful tool in eating disorder recovery. It can help to process your thoughts and feelings, explore insights and be a space for reflection. Here are some journal prompts to help you get started with journaling about recovery.


How has the eating disorder helped you? How has it harmed you?


In five years, how would you like your relationship to food to be?


What led you to start recovery?


What is a small step that you could take towards recovery?


In what ways have you already made progress towards recovery?


What does recovery from an eating disorder mean to you?


How does the eating disorder keep you from living the life that you want?


Here are just some examples of prompts you could use. There are many more available online, or you may have your own that you wish to use! If you are currently getting support for your eating disorder, it may be helpful to bring your journal to your sessions with your team, to explore what came up for you. It could also be useful if you are feeling stuck or unsure of what to talk about in sessions. Journaling your thoughts and feelings can be one tool and strategy in eating disorder recovery.
