In this edition of "Meet The Westwind Staff", we are asking four questions of Breanna Mills, the newest Registered Dietitian to join our team at Westwind.
What led you to Westwind? I was finishing up my dietetic practicum and searching for job opportunities. I have always been passionate about eating disorders and mental health; however, I never imagined that I would be able to start my career here! Making the move from Saskatchewan was a no brainer to me, and I am so glad that I did. Working at Westwind has been challenging and incredibly rewarding and I cannot imagine myself working in any other field.
What has inspired you about working in mental health? I believe that it is a privilege to be able to hear someone’s story. At Westwind, I have the opportunity to listen while clients describe difficult times in their lives, but also their successes and accomplishments. I am constantly inspired by the resilience and strength of the clients at Westwind and feel incredibly fortunate that I get to be part of their recovery journey.
If you could say one thing to someone seeking treatment, what would it be? I would commend their courage and bravery. Seeking treatment is difficult and recovery is challenging and not a linear progression. Recovery is possible and attainable, and the incredible support at Westwind can help you get there.
What is one thing you practice to maintain positive mental health? I believe that it is very important to take time for myself. Whenever I get busy and stressed, I find it is very beneficial for me to take a step back and take a break. Whether that entails watching my favorite TV show, reading a book, going for a walk, belting out my favorite song or dancing around my house, I believe it is essential to take time for things that bring me joy.
